Love Beyond Bars: Our Visit to Nsawam Female Prison

On Valentine’s Day, we visited the Nsawam Female Prison to donate essential items and share a time of worship and prayer with the inmates.

My first visit to Nsawam Female Prison was in 2005 during my undergraduate studies. It was part of a penology class field trip where we visited both the male and female prisons. The visit to the male prison was overwhelming. The female prison, however, was a discovery. I remember how impressed we were by how orderly and neat the cells were.

It was therefore a surreal and deeply reflective moment to return to the Women’s Prison years later, this time not as a student observing, but as part of a project giving back.

We shared a worship session with the inmates, spoke words of hope, and donated items to support their welfare. It was a deeply humbling and rewarding experience. A time to give back is always time well spent.

The women in these prisons are daughters, mothers, and sisters. They deserve dignity, compassion, and the reminder that they are not forgotten.

There is always hope for redemption. There is hope beyond bars.
