The Love Project is a concept of The Woman Called She where a project is undertaken to benefit the vulnerable in society. This is in line with the general theme of Valentine and the love month of February. This year’s project was to feed One Hundred (100) homeless people on the streets of Accra.
Accra’s homeless situation is synonymous with big cities all around the world. There are about 100,000 homeless people on the streets of Accra. A drive around the city will reveal hordes of homeless people and beggars scattered throughout the city. Unfortunately, some of these people are children who are often found at various traffic intersections begging for food and money.

The Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) and other social intervention programs that were instituted by the government to assist the vulnerable in society are not being felt by those in the underbelly of society and these people are left to survive through the benevolence of other citizens.
Our first stop was the Accra Mall Shiashie enclave, we then moved to 37 Military Hospital environs and ended up at Circle underbridge near the Neoplan Station.
Generally, the program ran very smoothly until Circle where it got a bit tense due to the scramble for food by the people. It was sad to see adults struggling with the little children for the food, we quickly gave out what we had and exited the location to diffuse the situation.

The Government needs to do more in terms of social welfare to help the vulnerable in society. Jobs and affordable housing should be available to reduce the number of homeless people who have no choice but to live on the streets.
The concept of food banks for the needy should also be put into practice so that the homeless and those who have no choice but to live their life on the streets are assured of some form of sustenance to keep them healthy.
The Woman Called She is committed to helping the poor and vulnerable in society and this is not our last time feeding the homeless. Partner with us on our next project because we believe little drops make a great ocean.
